Stearic acid, octadecanoic acid, white waxy transparent solid Or yellowish waxy solid. Can be dispersed into powder with slight butter smell. Slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in alcohol, acetone, easily soluble in benzene, chloroform, ether, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, amyl acetate and toluene, etc.

Paraffin wax, also known as crystalline wax, is a hydrocarbon mixture with about 18 to 30 carbon atoms. The main component is linear alkanes (about 80% to 95%), and there are also a small amount of alkanes with individual branch chains and monocyclic cycloalkanes with long side chains (the total content of the two is less than 20%). Paraffin is a flaky or needle-shaped crystal obtained from the lubricating oil fraction obtained by distillation of crude oil through solvent refining, solvent dewaxing or wax freeze crystallization, press dewaxing to obtain wax paste, and then deoiling and refining. According to the different degrees of processing and refining, it can be divided into three types: fully refined paraffin, semi-refined paraffin and crude paraffin. Each type of wax is divided into different varieties according to its melting point, usually every 2°C, such as 52, 54, 56, 58 and other brands. Crude paraffin has a high oil content and is mainly used to make matches, fiberboards, canvas, etc. Fully refined paraffin wax and semi-refined paraffin wax are widely used. They are mainly used as components and packaging materials for food, oral drugs and certain commodities (such as wax paper, crayons, candles, copy paper), as coating materials for baking containers, and for fruit preservation. , Insulate electrical components, improve rubber aging resistance and increase flexibility, etc. It can also be used for oxidation to produce synthetic fatty acids.

Instructions for supplying stearic acid: The effects of stearic acid on paraffin and precautions are as follows:

1. Stearic acid has a certain influence on the melting point of paraffin: when the mass fraction is in the range of 0~40%, its melting point shows a slowly decreasing trend, and then gradually increases.

2. Stearic acid has a significant enhancement effect on the strength of paraffin wax: especially when the mass fraction is in the range of 0~10%, the strength of paraffin wax increases rapidly, and the strength increases by 32.56%. The reason is mainly related to the hardness. Fatty acid can remove air bubbles in paraffin and improve the uniformity of paraffin.

3. According to the infrared absorption spectrum test results, paraffin and stearic acid have many similarities in composition, so the two can achieve physical fusion in any proportion.

4. In industrial applications, if you want to increase the strength of paraffin wax without significantly lowering its melting point, the mass fraction of stearic acid should be less than 20%.
