[Alias] Tetradecanoic acid, tetradecanoic acid, myristic acid, myristic acid.
[Molecular Formula]C14H28O2
[Structural Formula]CH3(CH2)12COOH
[Properties]Myristic acid is a saturated higher fatty acid with white waxy crystals. The relative density is 0.8439 (80℃), the melting point is 58℃, the boiling point is 250.5℃ (13.3kPa), the refractive index is 1.4273 (70℃), and the acid value is 245.68. Insoluble in water, soluble in anhydrous ethanol, methanol, ether, petroleum ether, benzene and chloroform. It exists in the form of glyceride in vegetable oils such as nutmeg oil (content 70%-80%), palm oil (content 1%-3%), coconut oil (content 17%–20%).
[Use]Used in the manufacture of myristate and myristate, polyvinyl chloride heat stabilizers and plasticizers. It can also be used as a solvent, lubricant, pigment dispersant, and printing ink additive for metal processing and fragrances. It is commonly used as raw material for producing various types of surfactants, such as sorbitan fatty acid esters, glycerin fatty acid esters, ethylene glycol or propylene glycol fatty acid esters, etc. It can also be used to prepare spices, cosmetics, etc.
[Brief preparation method]
① Made from saponification and neutralization of coconut oil or other animal and vegetable oils;
② is prepared by reacting glyceryl tritetradecanoate in the presence of sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid;
③Produced by oxidative dehydrogenation of tetraalkanol.
