Product features and benefits: BYK-CATALYST 450 accelerates the curing of amino resins and hydroxyl resins crosslinking. The low-reactivity HMMM type (hexamethoxymethylmelamine) melamine formaldehyde resins in particular require catalysts to lower the baking temperature or shorten the baking time. Compared to pure p-toluenesulfonic acid, the additive shows a significantly lower viscosity increase during storage and can extend shelf life by a factor of 1.5-3. Compared with other blocked p-toluenesulfonic acid catalysts (such as containing morpholine or aminomethyl propanol blocking agent), the baking temperature can be reduced by 10-20 ℃ after using this additive.

Recommended Purpose  

This additive is recommended for automotive refinishes, industrial coatings and clear varnishes.

Suggestions Dosage

1.5-6 % additive dosage (supply form) based on resin solids, dosage Depends on the reactivity of the base resin, the content of melamine resin and pigments.

The above recommended dosage is for reference, the optimal dosage needs to be determined through a series of experiments .

Join Methods and processing instructions

Can be added to the letdown process or thinner. The solvent mixture must contain 10-20 % polar solvents such as alcohols, glycols or esters.
