Product Introduction
Based on blocked aliphatic polyisocyanate IPDI.
Combined with hydroxyl functional polyols, especially Desmophen® T series hydroxyl polyesters, for lightfast one-component polyurethane baking coating systems, especially for coil steel or can coating applications. At the same time, it is used as an additive to traditional baking recipes to increase its adhesion and flexibility. This crosslinker is approved for use in food contact applications. *(Produces packaging coatings for the food industry.)

Features/Applications
Desmodur® BL 2078/2 was developed as a curing agent for lightfast one-component polyurethane baking varnish systems, as long as it is used for coil and can coating applications.
Cross-linked with equivalent Desmophen® T1775 (BNCO:OH=1.0:1.0), it can realize the balance of hardness and flexibility of corrosion-resistant coil steel primer and weather-resistant coil steel topcoat formulation. The required baking temperature can be reduced by adding 0.5~1.0% DBTL without affecting the storage stability of the final coating. At a maximum plate metal temperature (PMT) of 232°C, both primer and topcoat can achieve a dry film thickness of 50 μm, so a film thickness of 100 μm can be achieved for a two-coat system.
This product can be combined with hydroxyl polyester such as Desmophen® T1775, and also can be combined with phenolic, melamine, benzomelamine resins for high flexibility and antibacterial coating formulations that can be heated to 200 degrees for 12 minutes.
For packaging coating formulations that are also suitable for food contact, our recommended mixing system is: Desmophen® T1775/ SFC112/ Cymel® 1123/ Desmodur® BL 2078/2 (mass ratio: 50:20:25:5).
Compatibility
Desmodur® BL 2078/2 is generally compatible with hydroxyl polyols, especially with Desmophen® T series hydroxyl polyesters, melamine resins such as Maprenal® MF904, MF915, Cymel® 202, 325 , 327, benzomelamine resins such as Cymel® 1123, phenolic resins such as SFC112 and mixtures of the above. However, compatibility with possible mixtures needs to be tested in advance.
Solubility/Dilution
Desmodur® BL 2078/2 can be diluted up to 35 with esters, ketones, ether esters, ether alcohols, aromatic hydrocarbons and e.g. Solvesso® 100, 150ND and 200ND % solid content. This product cannot be diluted with aliphatic hydrocarbons. Both compatibility and stability of dilute solutions need to be tested.
Save
– Store in original airtight container.
– Recommended storage temperature: 0-30°C.
– Protect from moisture, heat and foreign substances.
General Information: Storage at higher temperatures will result in increased color and increased viscosity.
Storage at lower temperatures will cause solidification. Solidified solids can be reduced by slight heating without affecting their quality.
Storage Time
When the product is stored in full compliance with the requirements of the above “storage” clause and handled properly, the product meets the requirements within 6 months from the date of transportation stated on the transportation document. Specifications or characteristic values described in the “Specification or characteristic values” clause above, as applicable. If the product exceeds the above-mentioned 6-month period, it does not mean that it no longer meets the set values in the specifications or characteristic values. However, it is recommended that products older than 6 months from the date of shipment be tested before use to confirm that they still comply with the values set in the specifications or characteristic values. The manufacturer does not make any promises for products that have been shipped more than 6 months from the date of shipment, and does not assume any responsibility and liability for non-compliance with specifications or set values in the characteristic values.
