Background and overview[1]
Phenylmercuric borate is mainly used as an antibacterial preservative in topical pharmaceutical preparations. It is a commonly used pharmaceutical excipient. Phenylmercuric borate can replace phenylmercuric acetate or phenylmercuric nitrate as an antibacterial preservative. Its solubility is greater than phenylmercuric nitrate, and phenylmercuric borate is reported to be less irritating than phenylmercuric acetate and phenylmercuric nitrate. Phenylmercuric borate is used primarily in topical pharmaceutical preparations as an antimicrobial preservative. Reports of adverse reactions to mercury preservatives are common; see Phenylmercuric Nitrate. Phenylmercuric borate is an irritant. However, there are reports that it is less irritating than phenylmercuric acetate or phenylmercuric nitrate. However, there is a possibility of cross-sensitivity with other mercury-containing preservatives. There are reports that long-term use of disinfectant soap containing 0.04% phenylmercury borate for hand washing will cause systemic absorption, leading to an increase in the daily absorption of mercury by the human body (estimated to be 30 to 100 μg per 24 hours).
Apply[1]
Phenylmercuric borate is used primarily in topical pharmaceutical preparations as an antimicrobial preservative. For example, a composition for treating eye fungal and bacterial infections is prepared by combining mercury preservatives thimerosal, phenylmercuric nitrate, phenylmercuric nitrate alkali, phenylmercuric acetate, phenylmercuric borate, which have dual antifungal and antibacterial effects. At least one of mercury tert-butylphenol, mercury cyanide oxide, sodium thiomercurate benzene sulfonate, and salts and derivatives of any of the above compounds is used as the main active component, and is composed of antioxidants, pH regulators, and osmotic pressure regulators. The auxiliary materials and water, the carrier required to dissolve the above-mentioned mercury preservatives and auxiliary materials, together constitute the composition for treating ocular fungal and bacterial infections of the present invention. The composition can be in a variety of ophthalmic dosage forms, and is suitable for fungal corneas. It has a very good therapeutic effect on inflammation, thus providing patients and doctors with a new eye composition that has dual antifungal and antibacterial effects, is safe, efficient, cheap and convenient.
