The full name of polyurethane is polyurethane, and its English abbreviation is “PU”. It uses polyol polymer and isocyanate as raw materials, and forms a polymer material with multiple urethane segments under the action of chemical additives. It has the advantages of strong impact resistance, wide rebound range, good wear resistance and aging resistance, and is known as the fifth largest plastic after polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polypropylene and polyethylene. Polyurethane has a wide range of applications and is widely used in aerospace, national defense, automobiles, chemical industry, construction and other fields.

With the gradual advancement of production technology, the types of polyurethane products in my country have gradually become richer, which can be roughly divided into foam systems and CASE systems. Among them, the CASE system is mainly used to produce polyurethane elastomers, slurries, adhesives, coatings, etc.; the foam system mainly refers to polyurethane hard foam and polyurethane soft foam. Polyurethane hard foam can be further processed into thermal insulation and waterproof materials, and polyurethane soft foam is multi-purpose. It is used to make shock-proof and sound-insulating materials and various padding materials for furniture or vehicles.

From the perspective of polyurethane consumption structure, polyurethane soft foam, polyurethane rigid foam and polyurethane elastomer have become the main consumer products of polyurethane in my country. Among them, polyurethane soft foam accounts for the largest consumption of overall polyurethane products, accounting for 27.2%; followed by polyurethane rigid foam, accounting for 26.4%; ranking third is polyurethane elastomer, accounting for 20.1%.

According to the “Polyurethane Industry Investment Environment and Investment Prospects Forecast Analysis Report 2023-2027” released by the Industrial Research Center, it shows that with rubber, Compared with traditional plastics and other materials, polyurethane has obvious performance advantages and is widely used in synthetic leather, building materials, automobiles, spandex and other fields. At this stage, automobiles have become the largest application field of polyurethane. According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in 2022, my country’s automobile production and sales will complete 27.021 million units and 26.864 million units respectively, a year-on-year increase of 3.4% and 2.1% respectively. As my country’s automobile production and sales continue to increase, the demand for polyurethane continues to increase. Coupled with the rapid development of my country’s spandex, synthetic leather and other markets, the demand for polyurethane has further increased. Against this background, my country’s polyurethane production continues to grow. In 2022, my country’s polyurethane output will be 15.125 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.7%.

Industry analysts said that currently, there are many companies in my country’s polyurethane market, and the industry concentration is relatively low. The largest polyurethane manufacturers in my country mainly include Wanhua Chemical, Asahikawa Chemical, Hexin Holdings, Huide Technology, Huafeng Group, Meirui New Materials, Huada Chemical, Austin, etc. In the early days, my country’s polyurethane companies started late, with relatively backward production technology and uneven product quality, mainly concentrated in the mid- to low-end markets. However, as my country’s polyurethane enterprises gradually improve their research and development capabilities, product quality gradually improves, product types gradually enrich, and they gradually develop in the direction of high quality and high-end.
