Unsaturated resin (UPR) is widely used and my country is the world’s largest producer.

Unsaturated resin (UPR) refers to a polymer compound containing unsaturated double bonds generated by the polycondensation reaction of dibasic acid and dihydric alcohol. Unsaturated resin has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, heat resistance, oil resistance, etc., and is widely used in architectural decoration, shipbuilding, wind power generation, coatings, automobile manufacturing and other fields. There are many types of unsaturated resins. According to different properties, they can be divided into self-extinguishing resins, anti-corrosion resins, general-purpose resins, low-shrinkage resins and heat-resistant resins.

Molding is a key link in the production of unsaturated resins, including casting molding, winding molding, hand lay-up molding, pultrusion molding, sheet molding, injection molding, etc. Winding molding is the mainstream molding process of unsaturated resin, which can be subdivided into continuous winding, fixed-length winding, etc. Winding molding requires first immersing fibers such as cloth tapes and prepreg yarns in resin glue, then spirally or circumferentially wrapping them around the mandrel, and then curing and demoulding to obtain the finished product. In recent years, as the technology has matured, my country’s unsaturated resin output has continued to grow, reaching 3.697 million tons in 2022, making it the world’s largest unsaturated resin producer.

Glass fiber reinforced plastic (UPR-FRP) is an unsaturated resin end product. FRP has the characteristics of lightweight, corrosion resistance, and excellent electrical properties. It is widely used in rail transportation, aerospace, construction, electronics, automobile manufacturing and other fields. With in-depth research and technological advancement, the market share of high-performance fiberglass in my country continues to increase, which provides favorable conditions for the development of the unsaturated resin industry.

Unsaturated resins are widely used. In the field of architectural decoration, unsaturated resin can be used for roof decoration, wall panel decoration, ceiling decoration, etc.; in the field of shipbuilding, unsaturated resin has the advantages of wear resistance and seawater corrosion resistance, and can be used to manufacture sailboats, yachts, etc.; in the field of wind power generation , unsaturated resin can be used to manufacture wind power gearboxes, wind power blades and wind power towers. According to the “2023-2028 China Unsaturated Resin (UPR) Industry Market In-depth Research and Development Prospects Forecast Report released by the Industrial Research Center ” shows that with the rapid development of downstream industries, my country’s unsaturated resin market demand is increasingly strong, and its demand will reach 3.614 million tons in 2022.

In the future, with in-depth research, the application scope of unsaturated resins will be further expanded.
