Arkema has signed a long-term agreement with the ENGIE Group to supply 300GWh/year of renewable biomethane in France from January 1, 2023. This is one of the largest private sector biomethane deals in Europe to date.
Arkema is proud to be a pioneer in bio-based high-performance materials derived from renewable castor beans. This material has a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to equivalent fossil-based materials.
A 300GWh/year renewable biomethane supply agreement with the ENGIE Group and ongoing energy efficiency projects will allow Arkema to further significantly reduce the
Carbon footprint of PA11 and Pebax® Rnew® elastomer ranges.
Produced through the fermentation of organic matter, biomethane is a renewable alternative to natural gas with a lower carbon footprint. France’s biomethane raw materials are particularly environmentally friendly, and more than 95% of them come from the fermentation of agricultural waste and biomass waste, and do not compete with food.
Arkema is also exploring opportunities to collaborate with ENGIE Group, as well as other industry players, to contribute to the continuous improvement of renewable biomethane production in France.
Arkema Performance Polymers Business Unit Senior Vice President Erwoan Pezron said: “We are very excited to announce the signing of this landmark agreement between Arkema and the ENGIE Group. contract, which will allow us to further reduce the carbon footprint of our bio-based high-performance materials to meet customer expectations. With the industry’s shift to sustainable materials accelerating, with a wide range of bio-based and recycled materials, Arkemabi More than ever as a partner of choice.”
Paulo Almirante, Senior Executive Vice President, Renewable Energy, Energy Management and Nuclear Activities of the ENGIE Group said: “We are delighted that ENGIE is joining hands with our old friend Arkemat by signing such a significant green energy supply agreement. on their sustainable transformation journey. At ENGIE Group, we believe that biomethane will play an important role in the European energy mix and will be a key factor in the decarbonization of energy for our customers. This landmark transaction undoubtedly represents the A major advance for the intensive chemical industry and further establishes the ENGIE Group as the benchmark for biomethane producers in Europe.”
