The Zhongkun Thermal Power Project (Phase I) includes two 320t/h circulating fluidized bed boilers and one 39MW extraction back-pressure steam turbine generator unit and its supporting facilities. Construction will start in November 2022, and the boiler will be installed in February 2023. The installation of the first steel structure began. On March 16th, the large plate beams of the 1# boiler were hoisted. On May 6th, the main factory building was capped. On May 30th, the water pressure test of the 1# boiler was carried out. It uses natural gas as raw material and adopts the internationally advanced oxidative coupling ethylene glycol production process to build an air separation unit and conversion device, purification separation device, DMO device and ethylene glycol device, as well as supporting public works, forming an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons of ethylene glycol.

Zhongkun New Materials’ 2×600,000 tons/year natural gas-to-ethylene glycol project is located in the refining-chemical-spinning integrated industrial zone of Korla Petroleum and Petrochemical Industrial Park Production Zone, Bazhou, Xinjiang. The project uses natural gas as raw material and uses Shanghai International Chemical Construction’s natural gas non-catalytic partial conversion (POX) technology to produce syngas. After CO2 is removed from the syngas through the NCMA method of Nanjing Chemical Industry Research Institute, it enters H2/CO cryogenics and PSA pressure swing adsorption. The H2 and CO are separated and used as raw materials for dimethyl oxalate and ethylene glycol devices. CO is fed into the dimethyl oxalate unit to produce DMO, H2 is combined with the dimethyl oxalate produced in the DMO unit to produce ethylene glycol, and ethanol, heavy glycol, light glycol and other by-products are produced. Ethylene glycol and dimethyl oxalate are high chemical technologies. After the project is completed, it will produce 1.2 million tons of ethylene glycol and 55,000 tons of dimethyl carbonate annually. It is of great significance for improving the on-site conversion rate of Xinjiang’s oil and gas resources, accelerating the transformation and upgrading of Bazhou’s petroleum and petrochemical industry, and optimizing the industrial structure of the region and enterprises.
