Easily soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, chloroform and carbon tetrachloride, insoluble in water. Used in organic synthesis as solvent and gas chromatography comparison sample.
Safety precautions for n-dodecane:
Toxicity: classified as low toxicity, health hazard
Acute toxicity; static NOTE – Mouse LDL0: 2672 mg/kg.
Routes of invasion: inhalation, ingestion, percutaneous absorption.
Health hazards: It may be harmful to the body after inhalation, ingestion or absorption through the skin. It is mildly irritating to the respiratory mucosa. Inhalation of high concentrations has an anesthetic effect and is mildly irritating to the eyes and skin. May cause lung damage if swallowed. Prolonged exposure may cause skin dryness. Wear appropriate protective clothing when in contact.
Explosive hazard: Explosive when mixed with air.
Flammability hazard: It is flammable when exposed to open flames, high temperatures, and strong oxidants; combustion emits irritating smoke, and the combustion products are carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
Storage and transportation: Complete packaging, loading and unloading with care; the warehouse should be ventilated, away from open flames, high temperatures, and stored separately from oxidants and edible chemicals.
Environment: This substance may be harmful to the environment, and special attention should be paid to water bodies.
