N-decanoic acid is a white crystal with an unpleasant odor. It is insoluble in water and soluble in most organic solvents and dilute nitric acid. It is a medium carbon chain acid. Saturated fatty acids exist in small amounts in cow’s milk and goat’s milk, and are relatively high in tropical oils such as coconut oil (n-decanoic acid content is about 8%), palm kernel oil (n-decanoic acid content is about 9%), etc.
N-decanoic acid has a wide range of application fields:
N-decanoic acid and its esters are mainly used in food, plastic additives, medicine, pesticides, chemical industry and aviation and other industries.
The uses of n-decanoic acid are as follows:
1. Used in the synthesis of flavors, fragrances and drugs.
2. Defoaming agent.
3. Mainly used for flavors such as dairy products, rum, brandy, and licorice.
4. Used as juice flavoring. Chemical synthesis intermediates.
5. It is mainly used to prepare capric acid ester products, and its esters are used as spices, wetting agents, plasticizers and food additives.
